About the Event

Introduction:

As a hardcore Safety professional, we strongly believe that competent and high flier Professionals like can enhance employees performance manifolds with success (and consequently Performance and Success of the Company one is working for) by inculcating specialized skills and one of such skills is definitely is Accident/ Incident Investigation for the industrial set up. As each industry has its own perils & risks associated with respect to Occupational Health Safety & Environment in the processes involved. These can create havoc for any industry if not properly understood & addressed.

This program on understanding “Accident Causes and Investigation” is a right foot forward in this direction, to hone these skills for a professional engaged in any discipline of an Industry.

The industrial accidents/incidents data clearly emphasizes the need for an effective occupational health, fire and safety management system that integrates safety and health concerns into a daily routine of any industry or plant operations.

People working in the industrial sector are exposed to various risk factors like large volumes of handling flammable and toxic materials, fires, explosions or exposure of people to toxic gases and chemicals, ergonomic disorders etc. Therefore its continuous monitoring is essential.

This course outlines the key “factors” for leading to industrial accidents or even incidents/ near misses in the any industry operations namely; processing, manufacturing, continuous operating, chemical, petrochemical, cement, Oil & Gas, manufacturing etc. including its significance, features, components and benefits of an effective Safety Management System (SMS), which covers aspects like Fire & Safety, Occupational Health and Environment related issues. This necessitates a deeper understanding of “Accident Causes” along with its mitigation techniques.

This program provides guidance on key principles and issues to be taken into account when conducting an effective Accident Investigation in any process industry or factories. It also describes the analysis and reporting to arrive at the nature of control measures required to be implemented.

This two days program broadly refers to Accident Causes and Investigation techniques that may be appropriate for any industrial purposes. The recommendations can be used for future “Job Safety Analysis (JSA)”, “Process Hazards Analysis (PHA)”, “Task Analysis” etc.

Benefits to Participants:

This training program and the content will elaborate and make participants understand the following:

  • The causes leading to accidents process
  • The different types of hazard the workplace
  • Study methodology for Accident Investigation
  • Conducting field visit & interviewing the persons.
  • Identification of probable causes
  • Analysis of all evidence leading to final assessment of causes.
  • Report writing & its flow/ pattern

Session Plan

The session plan is so chosen that it has coverage of practical examples/anecdotes from Faculty’s own rich experience and it is intended to get into the actual practical process of identification of the Hazards and look into possible measures to resolve or mitigate or minimize the hazards. This sharing of knowledge will go a long way with the participants in registering the concepts & appreciating the intricacies of HIRA from a practical usage point of view, at their respective workplace.

In a nutshell, we say as under:

“Accident Investigation makes us look beyond immediate causes for continual improvement for the future.”

About The Faculty – Mr. G S Baveja

Mr. Baveja is a Mechanical Engineering graduate of 1970 and MBA in Safety Management and Construction Technology with close to 50 years of experience to back with. He worked with Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) about 12 years.  While in BHEL he was engaged for construction, erection and commissioning of Thermal Power Plants in the country. This experience was very intense. For six months he underwent an advanced training programme for Erection of large size machines at M/s KWU in West Germany.

End 1982, he joined Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Projects Department for the execution of 2x35MW Captive Power Plant (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine & HRSG Sets) at its Refinery at Mumbai, India.  On successful completion of this project, he moved on to various departments like “Engineering & Construction”, “Materials”, “Energy & Environment”, "Advisory Engineering", etc. in the Refinery. The projects handled by him were of varying complexities, being within the operating refinery. Many challenging projects were executed, which could be tied up / hooked up with existing facilities only during major turn- around of plants/units.

After 14 years of working in Refinery, he moved as Head of Administration at the Corporate Office of BPCL. He looked after all administration related services & policy-related matters and Contracts of the Corporation. He was also looking after activities of Corporate Social Responsibility, Real Estates of entire Corporation i.e. Office & Residential Premises’ etc.

As “Administration Head” his responsibilities covered the Construction of new housing/office complexes & renovation & revamp of existing facilities, at various locations as per the need of the Corporation.  Lastly, he worked as an Entity of Corporate HSSE. As Entity Head of HSSE, he was responsible for the development of "Corporate Sustainability Report" for the Corporation.

While handling various projects being in-charge of Corporate Administration, he had intense exposure to Contracts Management. Two of his tenures gave him the full insight to “Purchase” & “Services” Contracts Management.

He had opportunity to work on a few World Bank aided projects, which called for International Competitive Bidding (ICB) processes both for supplies & services in line with International Bank for Reconstruction & Development (IBRD) procedures. One project executed under Mr. Baveja was financially supported by Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Since 1992 onward Mr. Baveja served as a member of “Tender Evaluation Committees” at various levels. He served as member of many “Tender Approval Committees” of very high-value Contracts & Services. He also served as “Estate Officer” and “Arbitrator” on a number of Contracts for its final closures.

E-certificate will be given on successful completion of the course.
