What & Why Electrical Fire – its Genesis, Mitigation and Prevention

Among all the hazards present in the work area, fire and explosion due to electricity is a significant one. More than 75% of the fires in the industrial, commercial and domestic fronts are caused by electricity. Fire and electricity are like two sides of a coin. And that is why we must be concerned with two streams – Electricity and Fire.

Our goal shall be to provide safe and healthy working conditions for all in the workplace and beyond. Hence, control and Mitigation of electrical fire, electrical arc-flash and identification of hazardous areas shall be one of our major focus areas. Mitigating and preventing a fire caused by electricity, commonly known as ‘Electrical Fire’, consists of four elements – Awareness, Causes, Testing and Safety.

The entire curriculum has been designed keeping this goal in mind. As a result, this Technical Training Program starts with the understanding of electrical safety; ignition, arc-flash Hazards & Risks in low, medium and high voltage installations; followed by Hazard Area Classification for installing Electrical Equipment, Instruments and wiring in the Hazardous Area, fire philosophy; testing of electrical installation from the point of view of fire; and prevention & mitigation of fire.

The course will be helpful to the Plant & Factory Managers, Electrical Engineers, Fire & Safety Professionals, Project Engineers, and Process persons engaged in Commercial & Industrial set ups, Petro-chemicals, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Fertilizer, Power Plant, Process Industries, Mining, Manufacturing & Engineering and/or any other large/medium industry handling flammable materials and electrical systems. The program will be useful even to the Planning, Design, Erection & Project Engineers engaged in Complex Work Sites.
